Smith System Announces New Interchange Series

Diamond Desk first in line of cooperative learning stations

PLANO, TEXAS (March 6, 2006) – Smith System, an innovative manufacturer of school desks and furniture, today announced the release of its new Interchange Series, the next generation of cooperative learning desks.  The Diamond Desk, named for its shape and ability to arrange individually or in groups of up to six, is the first desk to be introduced in the line.

The Interchange Series features a series of desks that allow for individual arrangements or groupings of up to six or four desks for cooperative learning.  With a student-friendly design, the Interchange Series is installer-friendly and steel “V” braces welded to the legs and mounting plates allow for greater stability and resist scuffing with sock-style glide caps.

The Diamond Desk, first to be introduced in the line, has a unique design that allows it to be used as an individual workstation or grouped in space-efficient clusters of up to six. The flexibility of the Diamond Desk makes it applicable for the widest variety of curricula in the Interchange System.

“The versatility of the Diamond Desk and the new Interchange System allow schools to ‘future proof’ their classrooms,” said Bob Redding, vice president of sales for Smith System. “As curricula change the Diamond Desk can be rearranged for a number of different lesson plans.”

Diamond Desk features include:

  • Unique telescoping oval tube leg that adjusts height in one inch increments;
  • One inch adjustable leveling glides to provide stability on uneven floors with locking cams that keep glides in place;
  • Upper legs of 14-gauge steel protected with durable powdercoat surface to resist wear;
  • Six-desk group is only 78 inches in diameter;
  • High-pressure laminate surface that resists wear.

The new Interchange System marks the second generation of cooperative learning desks created by the Smith System.  Improving learning environments for 100 years, the company was the first to bring cooperative learning desk designs to the marketplace and is a pioneer in innovating classroom furniture to fit a changing educational environment.

The suggested retail price of the Diamond Desk system is $149.00 per desk with a steel book box accessory available for $41.00 per desk. Smith System’s Interchange System and Diamond Desks are available by calling 800-328-1061 or by visiting www.smithsystem.com
