PLANO, TEXAS (February 25, 2008) – Adding mobility and versatility to an otherwise stationary workspace, the Breakaway Peninsula Table reinvents the way a teacher’s suite can be utilized. A sister to the Acrobat Peninsula Instructor Desk, the Breakaway Peninsula Table can be arranged in tandem with any of Smith System’s standard 30-inch tables or as an individual piece depending on teaching needs.

When arranged together, the two desk units fit snugly and increase desktop workspace for instructors or seating capacity for group activities. When separated, the helmet-shaped Breakaway Peninsula Table is perfect for one-on-one teacher and student learning opportunities.
“Classrooms are becoming more interactive, and there is a need for teachers to have workspaces that are conducive to this trend,” said Amee Meghani, Smith System product engineer and designer of the Breakaway Peninsula Table. “Over the last decade, Smith System has been focusing on making student desks more interactive, but the Breakaway Peninsula Table was our first opportunity to give instructors versatility in their workspaces as well.”
The helmet-shaped Breakaway Peninsula Table also can serve as a student presentation table, allowing ample space for science projects or diorama displays. Additionally, it can function as a separate area for a teacher’s aide or student teacher to conduct their daily work, without intruding on the working space of the teacher.
The Breakaway Peninsula Table offers sturdy form as well as function. Outfitted with a high-pressure laminate surface that resists wear, 3/8-inch thick bumper edges all around and a rugged powdercoat finish that protects the legs and steel surfaces, the Breakaway Peninsula Table stands up to heavy use. Secured in place by optional 3-inch locking casters, the desk units will not roll freely until unlocked. When unlocked, the casters allow for easy mobility, making moving and rearranging the desk units effortless.
